Welcome to my practice...

I am Dr Elke Heidemann-Eggert the founder and clinical director of Viam Tuam.
I am a highly accomplished consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist and psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience. I am dedicated to supporting young people’s mental health and well-being, with a special focus on treating eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).

Originally from Germany, I completed my rigorous training in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy at the renowned Aerztekammer Nordrhein-Westfalen. Driven by my passion for providing comprehensive care, I pursued additional training in behavioural therapy, trauma therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy for Adolescents (DBTA), equipping myself with a unique set of clinical and therapeutic skills that are particularly valuable in treating eating disorders and related conditions.

Since bringing my expertise to the UK in 2019, I have made significant contributions to the field of eating disorder treatment. I have worked at the inpatient eating disorder ward at South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust, honing my skills in managing complex cases. Currently, I hold a position as a consultant psychiatrist in the community eating disorders service at Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Trust, where I continue to make a profound impact on the lives of young people struggling with eating disorders.

In my private practice, I create a warm, supportive, and empowering environment where children, adolescents, and their loved ones can feel heard and validated. My goal is to accompany my patients on their journey towards recovery from eating disorders, providing them with the tools and support they need to overcome challenges and thrive. As a member of the Royal College of Psychiatry, I stay at the forefront of advances in eating disorder treatment, ensuring I consistently deliver the most effective, evidence-based care.

When not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and cherishing the vibrant life that London has to offer. If you or a loved one are struggling with an eating disorder, I am here to provide compassionate, skilled, and dedicated support on your journey towards recovery and mental well-being.
